Join Elizabeth Stone Gallery for a special evening with children’s author, singer, and television personality Rory Zuckerman. Known for the popular 1990s Learning Channel’s ‘Rory’s Place,’ Zuckerman will perform acclaimed songs from her Sleepy Sheep books and the Rory and Friends CD collection.

Rory’s warm and captivating signature style incorporating rock, pop, blues, and Motown appeals to children and parents alike. With many credits to her name, such as the Parents’ Choice Award, Rory has performed at the Kennedy Center and the White House. The gallery is pleased to host an exhibition of the artwork of Mary Newell DePalma through the holidays. The artist will be signing copies of her newest book, The Nutcracker Doll , a true story about her daughter Kepley's first professional ballet role . Kepley will talk about her experiences dancing in eight productions of The Nutcracker for the Boston Ballet.
Guest ballerinas from the Alexandria Ballet production of The Nutcracker will be joining us courtesy of Alliance Dance Institute.

2007 National Book Festival Artist
Mercer Mayer has written and illustrated more than 300 books for children. A Boy, A Dog and A Frog and There’s A Nightmare In My Closet have been bedtime favorites for many years. Mercer is also the creator of the extremely popular Little Critter® books. His most recent titles are The Bravest Knight, The Little Drummer Mouse, and There Are Monsters Everywhere.
Mercer Mayer was selected to illustrate the poster for the 2007 National Book Festival, sponsored by Laura Bush and the Library of Congress.

 The Elizabeth Stone Gallery is proud to present Katherine Janus Kahn, illustrator of The Ziz and the Hanukkah Miracle, from the Ziz series, and the Sammy Spider series, including Sammy Spider's First Haggadah and the forthcoming Sammy Spider's First Shavuot, to be released Spring 2008. She will discuss the creation of these popular characters with Ziz author Jacqueline Jules.
In 1967, Ms. Kahn went to Israel with three pencils, one pencil sharpener, and a tablet of paper. "Maybe I'll start drawing," she thought, and she hasn't stopped since. She went to art school at the Bezalel School of Art in Jerusalem and the University of Iowa. She is the illustrator of over 50 books for Jewish children.
Ms. Jules is the author of The Hardest Word, Noah and the Ziz, The Ziz and the Hanukkah Miracle, and the forthcoming The Princess and the Ziz, as well as other children's books. She and Ms. Kahn appear with puppets of the Ziz and Sammy Spider, the characters from their books.

Gennady Spirin's unique style combines Russian art tradition with a masterful watercolor technique. He graduated from Surikov School of Fine Art at the Academy of Arts in Moscow and Moscow Stroganov Institute of Art and has since illustrated more than 40 enchanting children's books. His distinguished paintings illuminate the stories of Shakespeare, Checkhov, and Tolstoy, as well as many classic folktales. Spirin's artistic skill and sense of design have earned him five Gold Medals from the Society of Illustrators and four prestigious New York Times "The Best Illustrated Book of the Year" awards.
Gennady Spirin was invited by Laura Bush and The Library of Congress to be a special guest at The National Book Festival 2006 and selected to create the art work for this year's National Book Festival poster.
